Poltergeist 3 is the final chapter in the trilogy and it follows Carol Anne as she goes to stay with her Aunt and Uncle in Chicago. Things seem to be going alright for Carol Anne as she settles in at her Uncle's house. Not long after arriving she has a session with a hypnotherapist which causes the vile poltergeist Reverend Kane to find Carol Anne once again. This time he has a much bigger playing ground to use to capture Carol Anne once and for all. Will she survive this nightmare once again or will Kane finally have her in his grasp and take her to the light finally?!
This is probably the Poltergeist I seen the most as a kid and it also has the scene that stuck with me for years and invaded my nightmares. It was the scene where Carol Anne is pulled into the puddle in the parking garage. Once you see it you'll know why. This time around we have an all new cast besides Heather O'Rourke and Zelda Rubinstein. Reverend Kane is back as well, but sadly he's played by someone else and honestly is not as creepy in my opinion. As much as this film does have a good cast and it does have some good special effects I look as this film as very unnecessary.
After going through 2 films that are quite alike in ways, well going onto the third film that does the same thing as the other 2 it just feels kinda stale. The cast and special effects are really the only things that saved this film for me. It's just the same story of a poltergeist wanting to use Carol Anne to get to the night and out of purgatory. Now I will not say that this is a bad film because it really isn't. It is actually very enjoyable in the end. Like I said previously the scene where Carol Anne is pulled into a puddle, it is a scene that seriously used to scare me similarly to the scene in the film House where the main character goes into a mirror that goes to a supernatural world. I think they both scared me because they are both things that you can come in contact with everyday.
Sadly after this film was completed the child actress Heather O'Rourke died. It is sad that such a talented young actress as Heather O'Rourke died so young. I really think she could of had a great career ahead of her. The rest of the cast in this film has some of my favorite actors and actresses. The cast consists of Tom Skerritt (Alien), Nancy Allen (Robocop), and Zelda Rubenstein (Anguish). Overall this is an enjoyable film that I still see as an unnecessary sequel.
This Scream/Shout Factory release is done just as well as the Poltergeist 2 release, it's filled with pleanty of special features and has a great looking picture. Also this is a great upgrade from the bare bones Blu-ray that was previously released by MGM. One of the special features is a good interview with Nancy Allen.
