Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real
memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even
though he's got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the
mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life -
real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But
when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man.
Finding himself on the run from the police - controlled by Chancellor
Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world - Quaid teams up
with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground
resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and
reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as
Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.
Review: For most film fans they instantly think of Schwarzenegger when someone says Total Recall, now over 20 years later since the 1990 classic had been released we now have another film by the name of Total Recall. This time around there is a new leading man and from what I have gathered it's alot more faithful to the book than the 1990 film. So in my eyes I would not consider this a remake, I just consider it a new film based off an already adapted novel if that makes any sense. The leading man this time around is Colin Farrell which I am not the biggest fan of, but I will say this is the first film in awhile that I actually liked him in. I will say though I still like Schwarzenegger more.
One thing I did find myself doing is thinking about the original film during certain parts at first, but I quickly found myself getting into the film and enjoying it quite a bit. There are alot of differences this time around which in ways makes the story that much better in my opinion. Just to let anyone who loves the first film there is also the 3 boob prostitute in this version as well which is just awesome! Also they do the face changing mask which does glitch, but the scene is fast and didn't have the humor that you kinda got in the 1990 version. Those 2 things plus everything else surrounding them truly come together to make a film worth checking out.
Now as far as the casting goes I do think they did a very good job of picking out the right actors. Especially the use of Brian Cranston as Cohaagen. I have loved the work that he has done for quite some time and in this film he makes it that much more better. Now that is not to say that Michael Ironside didn't do a great job as the same character also. One character I will say that was better this time around is Kate Beckinsale as Lori Quaid, she is way better than Sharon Stone was. This film is like any other film and you will either hate it or love it, but going into this film please try to be open minded like I went into it. Because you will most likely enjoy the changes and the overall film if you do so. Nonetheless I still love the 1990 Total Recall more!
