Review: For someone like myself it has always been somewhat hard to make it completely through most of the films in the "nunsploitation" genre because they are either too tame or just slow. See I love to see anything that has blasphemy in it and even a slutty nun or two, but sometimes those things still cannot save a film from being way too boring or drawn out. The only question we have now at hand is, does Killer Nun fit into the better half of this sub-genre or does it fit into the bore you to tears half?
After taking 88 minutes of my life to view Killer Nun I have to say it's one of the very few that fit more in the middle. My reasoning for this is because although it does have slow pacing and lack of shock value there is still a good story of someone who is split between the things they desire and the religious backing they have been taught and told for so many years of their life. It's the type of thing that I could see alot of sheltered children from a strict religious family go through when they are unleashed onto the world for the first time on their own. Killer Nun follows Sister Gertrude who is a very strict nun who can be quite cruel, but ends up finding herself into a spiral of drug addition and sexual desires that pushes her to commit murder.
With a plot like that you would expect an orgy filled with shocking violence, blasphemy, and depravity. Really what you get is those things but not in such a big or shocking way. In alot of ways it was kinda tame, but I could see how some people would be deeply offended by it. To me it's more like I said before about a person who is having internal conflicts but in a much more dramatic way. I noticed through out the film when she was dressed in her nun outfit she seemed to in ways hate it which brought her to be such a strict bitch to everyone, but on the other hand she seemed more at ease and comfortable when she was out in the city in a dress looking more sexy and normal. Which helped to show the internal battle.
One scene I truly liked about this film is how they show how the Catholic church seems to hide everything when it comes to anything that may make the church look bad, in this case it's a nun committing murder. One thing I will let you know and that is there is a twist in the film that will most likely throw you for a loop in case you don't figure it out before it happens. I didn't see it coming so it made for a good twist. Now one seen that was kinda not what I wanted to see was when a nun is screwing an old man in a wheelchair out in the rain. Overall this was not a bad movie at all and actually I found it enjoyable in the end. I may even re-visit it in the future unlike most other films in this genre.
