Review: In the time following the release of the highly controversial and widely popular "The Last House On The Left" there was a flood of ripoffs. In that flood there are some that followed the same formula and did it well and there of course are those that plainly sucked. Well the film we have here was one of those to do just that and pretty well. Basically you get "Last House..." on a train.
The plot goes like this, there are 2 girls who are going on christmas vacation and decide to take a train to their location instead of flying. Along the way the 2 run into 2 guys who in the opening of the film get introduced as bad news as they rob a Santa and the get away by jumping onto a the same train. Later on into the night they run into the 2 thugs and a woman who is with them and things go horribly wrong from there. Eventually the 2 thugs and the woman run into the parents and if you've seen "Last House..." you can guess what happens from there.
There is nothing that is too original about this film, but that didn't take anything away from it for me. Actually in some ways I enjoyed this film alot more, mainly due to actually liking the characters more and also it has one of the coolest and most painful groin attacks I have seen in awhile, let's just say it made me squirm! Now even though I enjoyed Night Train Murders I wouldn't ever say it's an amazing film because it really isn't, but it's a damn good time filled with plenty of trashy scenes of rape, sex, violence and like I said before groin mutilation. When it comes down to it I really wouldn't change anything in this film, besides maybe the title. I think "Last Train To Italy" may of been a good title.
Now when it comes to the picture and audio quality I think Blue Underground once again hit a home run with this release. Now I have not seen this film on their DVD release that came out a few years back so I can't really compare them. I will say that the colors are great and the grain is still intact. Also they did an amazing job of cleaning up the film without compromising the detail and picture quality. The audio quality is great as well and is in the form of a English DTS-HD Mono soundtrack which is great because it's stays true to the original recorded audio track. Overall I have to say bravo to Blue Underground on this excellent release!
