"Invasion U.S.A. (1952) (Atomic Special Edition)" Review

Synopsis: A discussion about Communism turns into a full-fledged fight for democracy in this fantastical thriller. The conversation begins with a stranger (Dan O'Herlihy) broaching the subject, and soon, all hell breaks loose, with Communists invading the country and setting off bombs. Amid the chaos, love blooms for a reporter (Gerald Mohr) trying to get at the truth and a rich girl (Peggie Castle) plucked from her sheltered existence.

Review: Amongst the numerous "Red Scare" films that came out during the cold war this is the one that I think sticks out the most. Unlike alot of the ones I have seen this one actually tries to show you what it would be like if we were to go into WWIII. This film consists of  stock footage that is interwoven with actual scenes that were shot and even some scenes that were made up of models. It may be just me but the only thing I didn't care for was the whole love story that was put into this film mainly because when it comes to these type of films I prefer them to be straight up action and suspense. When it comes to the acting for the most part you get pretty basic acting that is nothing too over the top nor is it Oscar worthy, but I wouldn't want that in this type of film. Basically if you love these older somewhat campy scare films then I highly suggest you pick this one up. Now when it comes to the special features you get something unique with this DVD that I have never seen done before and that is that instead of a basic audio commentary from the director or cast what you get is 2 different Civil Defense Audio Recordings (The Complacent Americans & If The Bomb Falls) and honestly that is the coolest thing ever. On top of that you also get a red scare film "Red Nightmare" as well as Cast Interviews, Invasion U.S.A. Trailer. Overall this is the best edition of this film that you will ever find and on top of a great film you also get some amazing and unique special features!
