Synopsis: The Landlord is the story of Tyler, the unfortunate young owner of a demon-haunted apartment building. Finding tenants has never been a problem for Tyler, though he does have trouble keeping them alive to pay rent. No matter how nicely Tyler asks the demons not to eat the renters (or to at least wait a month or two), they never listen. And why should they? As far as the demons are concerned, humans are merely dumb, tasty animals - kinda like chickens - and Tyler is their pet monkey. But all that might change when Tyler takes a liking to the newest tenant, a desperate young woman running from demons of her own…
Review: This is the debut full length feature from director Emil Hyde. At first from the look of the cover I expected pretty much a straight forward horror film but what I got was something more like a dark comedy mixed with horror elements. I did find some of the humor to be more on the dry side but it works just fine. When it comes to the main characters for the most part I found them to be quite interesting and pretty well executed. Now there is parts in this film that I thought slowed down a bit too much but usually when that happened another scene would come along and grab my attention back. Unlike a lot of the low budget films I have reviewed this one actually uses some decent CGI that works quite well and this is coming from someone who usually hates CGI. I must add that one of my favorite scenes in this film was oddly the fake infomercial about a beef jerky juicer, it's just fucking hilarious especially the looks the woman in the commercial gives. Overall this is a good debut for this director and after finishing this film I could really tell that he has a true passion for film making and making something that is not just a typical cookie cutter type of film. I give this film a 4.5 out of 5!
